Reproductive Justice in Maryland

This legislative session, a new coalition fought to ensure reproductive justice and dignity for incarcerated women in Maryland. The Reproductive Justice Inside coalition, led by NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland, had two priorities: expanding access to menstrual hygiene products for female inmates and detainees and requiring all state correction facilities to develop written policies regarding medical care for pregnant inmates and detainees.

The legislature passed both common sense bills. The bill to develop written policies at each facility was the first of its kind in the nation.

The Hatcher Group worked pro bono with this coalition to secure media coverage of the bills, resulting in excellent pieces from outlets such as the Maryland Daily Record, Associated Press and WYPR. We also helped edit a compelling video, as well as create two memes once the General Assembly passed both bills.
